What do I get?!?

By  |  63 Comments

So.. Ulta loves me.

They basically told me. They thanked me for Spending so much money being so loyal.

I like when they do 20% off almost everything (sometimes they don’t let you get any high end makeup, so the fact that only a few are limited is nice)
I think this is the first time Bare Minerals. I haven’t used Bare Minerals in yeaaaaars.. for the longest time they felt WAY too infomercially for me, and their brushes felt like branches on a tree. I know that they have changed up their game plan though, so maybe I’ll take a look this time?

Anyways.. the whole point of this post is to get your input on what the heck I should get. I feel like Regina’s mom in Mean Girls.. “So, you guys, what is the 411? What has everybody talking about? What is the hot gossip? Tell me everything!” lol :)

I basically am curious as to what products or tools you have been eyeing at the store, but want a 2nd opinion on.. or even something you recently have bought and like, but want more ideas on how to use it. I’m open to any suggestions.. foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, nail polish, hair care.. you name it. Drugstore, high end, whatever!

Let me know. I’ll probably do a haul on what I pick up. And then first impressions. ;)

The Bare Minerals Ready Palettes are supposed to be pretty good, I actually really want to try some of them. I wish I had a 20% off coupon :D

Yes! These BM eye shadows are so great. I hope you try them…MAC used to be my favorite, but now I LOVE these!

I’ve been using the maybelline instant age rewind concealer. I got the brightener and I really like it, it really makes my skin look fresh. This is the only drug store product I use, I was a bit nervous but it worked out!

      January 21, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I keep hearing about this and it is always sold out when I go to the drug store. I will keep looking.

I’m really, really curious about Tarte’s Amazonian Clay foundation, but I don’t know if it’s available at your Ulta. I haven’t seen it at mine at all…or Sephora for that matter. The only place I know to get it is QVC or Tarte’s website. If it IS available though, I would love to know your thoughts on it!

    • Sitka

      January 23, 2012 at 6:42 am

I absolutely love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay foundation. been using it since July as my main foundation. it feels great on my skin and I have no irritation or sensitivity with it. It looks perfect.

I am from Europe and we don’t have Ulta here, but I thought that some of my tips for shopping would be helpfully (I hope so!) because I often buy on sales (well, I’m 16 y.o. high school girl on budget). First I always check through my stash what products I need and don’t have yet, and then check the products I have very little left of and that are almost near the end. Then I check what stuff is already on sale, sometimes more expensive products are bargain when on sale! And then I make a list of stuff I’ve been looking for and watching for a long time. And then go products I love so much and that I want to get in more shades. What are my recommendations? Well, it’s always nice to have bright pink based coral lipstick for spring and some funky lashes. Maybe try Revlon’s new Photo Ready Airbrush Mousse foundation? Oh, and, what about butter London polishes? They have some awesome colors, especially glitters – Henley Regatta and The Black Knight + Disco Biscuit looks nice for spring. Hope that was helpful!

Too-faced has always had this metallic liquid liner that I pick up and look at every time I go, but I end up not taking the plunge for it, would love to hear your thoughts :) I like the green one, in particular..

But I’m also really curious about the Bare Minerals ready palettes!!

  9. Annie

    January 21, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Have you tried out Samantha’s (pixiwoo’s) brushes yet? The blush brush is amazing! I need more!

    • Monica

      January 22, 2012 at 11:40 pm

I really would like to hear xsparkage’s opinion on the Real Technique’s brushes. I wish you would review them all so I would know which one to get. I value your opinion.

      • Jess

        January 23, 2012 at 6:40 am

Yes, PLEASE review pixiwoo brushes :) If you really LOVE them then I’ll get the ones I want. Just haven’t found reviews I trust.

    January 21, 2012 at 7:11 pm

could you consider getting and reviewing Bare minerals overnight powder treatment? it’s a lot like the foundation but you put it on at night. i’m super curious about it but it a cool $60 so i hesitate.

  11. Megan

    January 21, 2012 at 7:13 pm

Lol, I love you for loving mean girls. I don’t know what you should get, but I’ve been dying for the Urban Decay 24/7 glide on eye pencils.

  12. Amber

    January 21, 2012 at 7:14 pm

You should definitely try the Ready palettes. They are really creamy in texture but last all day for me. I’d love to see what you did with The Dream Sequence and maybe The Grand Finale. Have fun picking stuff out!

  13. Karla

    January 21, 2012 at 7:24 pm

I would really like your opinion on the real techniques brushes, and how good would they be for people who are just starting with makeup brushes

  14. Safyre

    January 21, 2012 at 7:30 pm

I’d suggest the Maybelline 24 Hr Eye Tattoo if you haven’t tried them already – the cream shadows that are supposed to be like paint pots. I’m digging the orange and teal ones.
I also really dig the Buxom glosses from Bare Minerals, they kinda remind me of Dazzleglass, but you get a lot more in them for around the same price. :3
    Hope that was helpful.

    • Sara

      January 22, 2012 at 12:56 am

Buxom is a Sephora exclusive, pretty soon they actually won’t be selling ANY of the Buxom line at Bare Escentuals stores. They already don’t sell all the products at the BE stores.

      • Mar

        January 22, 2012 at 4:58 am

My Ulta carries Buxom, but only the glosses.

  15. Gina

    January 21, 2012 at 7:35 pm

The new Bare Escentuals Ready eyeshadows (the pressed ones) are pretty fantastic! And they’re not even all that pricey either!

  16. Melanie

    January 21, 2012 at 7:55 pm

Not sure if Ulta carries these but I would love to see a review on Kryolan Professional Make up Dermacolor Fixing Spray and the Skindinavia finish spray to find out which one really holds your makeup on all day! They are a little pricey

  17. Melissa

    January 21, 2012 at 7:57 pm

Yay! I got one too! This is my O.D. at ulta trip!! This is the FIRST time they have excluded urban decay though from these “go crazy on the whole store 20% off” coupon! Sort of a bummer, but I guess I don’t NEED anymore UD!! I feel like I never really need anything when I go there but feel like I have to use the coupons because they’re so infrequent!!

  18. Jenni

    January 21, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Really interested in the Benefit B.Right skin care line, Bare Minerals Mineral Veil, Bare Minerals Well-Rested (the best way to use this product?), Real Techniques brushes, L’Oreal Infallible shadows (are they a good dupe for Armani Eyes to Kill?)..

Hoping to get my coupon in the mail soon~~ :)

    • Christina

      January 23, 2012 at 2:06 am

Jenni, I really love the Well-Rested product. It is supposed to be used to set and brighten your concealer, but I also use it on my eye lids to brighten them and help my eye shadows blend. Then! I also use it to high light my cheekbones…it is not shimmery at all, but adds a lightness to them. It lasts a long time, too!

  19. Natasha

    January 21, 2012 at 8:22 pm

loreal luminiser liquid eyeliner & mascara! theyre meant 2 enhance ur eye colour i would really like 2 kno what u think of them :) x

    January 21, 2012 at 8:25 pm

I’ve been really curious about the Too-Faced Queen Mascara. That brush is gigantic!!
I also want to get Butter London’s” Walis” nail polish. It’s just gorgeous.
Any KMS California products are just fabulous!!!

    • Nancy

      January 21, 2012 at 9:15 pm

Tiffany D reviewed that mascara and said that it sucked because since the brush is so huge it kept getting mascara in all the wrong places!!

    • Sally

      January 22, 2012 at 2:14 am

I have the Too Faced Queen Mascara and I do NOT like it at all. The brush is too big, and it really clumps my lashes. It looks like I have 5 fat lashes. Not a great buy

  21. Nancy

    January 21, 2012 at 9:13 pm

You should try the NYX eyeshadow pallete the ones that have 10 eyeshadows I love the smokey eyes one and the mysterious brown eyes pallete

  22. Rose

    January 21, 2012 at 9:31 pm

Those new bare minerals eyeshadows are pretty but the colors get too muddy when on the eye if that makes sense. The new smashbox lipsticks are amazing. If they have out the new butter london spring collection, it’s super pretty too.

  23. Kacee

    January 21, 2012 at 9:35 pm

    Hey Leesha!
I definitly think you should try the bare minerals ready eyeshadows, theyre not very bright and colorful, but there are some very metallic and beautifuly pigmented. Also from buxom theyre cream shadows are amazing! They are so soft, and almost feel fluffy! haha.
I also think you should try Benefit Hervana, its very flattering on lighter skin tones (Im white as paper!) and gives perfect flush to my cheeks.

  24. Elyse

    January 21, 2012 at 10:10 pm

    I love their lip gloss!

    January 21, 2012 at 10:22 pm

I got the same coupon and I’m planning on getting Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, some of those new L’oreal eyeshadows that are suppose to be dupes for Armani Eyes to Kill, and maybe I’ll try out the new Smashbox Studio Skin foundation.

  26. Danielle

    January 22, 2012 at 12:46 am

i use their foundation that’s pretty much it, but i have tried their new shadows and i like them.

    January 22, 2012 at 1:14 am

ben nyes mellow yellow concealer, MACs powder foundation, and a homemade finishing powder (silica, boron nitride, ultra silk mica, ben nye banana yellow powder) are all i ever need to make a perfect makeup base. i find that the biggest secret in the world is buying your own raw materials from a place like coastal scents and using it as you see fit. i pay less than pennies a day to use a finishing powder people would kill for.

  28. Christina

    January 22, 2012 at 2:11 am

Lime Crime’s Carousel Gloss in Gold Ticket…I’ve been eyeing it FOREVER. I also like their new China Doll collection…but $35 for five 1.3 g. seems a bit much :| Good Luck Leesha :D

    January 22, 2012 at 4:22 am

Buxom blue noir special effects mascara has been on my radar lately. I have also been eyeing the UD heavy metal glitter liners.
Hope this helps and good luck :)

After you get the stuff you want, you should make a first impressions video with those products.

    January 23, 2012 at 2:08 am

Another vote for the Bare Minerals Ready eye shadows!

  34. I fail at makeup

    January 23, 2012 at 3:22 am

Hi, I’m actually trying to shop on ulta.com right now. I have very little makeup and always watched your videos to see how it’s done. I’ve tried to replicate your looks a couple of times with what I had laying around and I just looked awful. I know you like the Naked palette from Urban Decay, so I’m going to get that. I’m also going to get the NYX jumbo eye pencil in milk. Do you have any recommendations on black liquid eyeliners to buy?

    • Candace

      January 23, 2012 at 4:10 am

I love the Urban Decay liquid liner in Perversion.

    January 23, 2012 at 5:29 am

Get the new Bare Minerals pressed eyeshadows. They are AWESOME. I have one of the quads and I just want to get all of them! So soft!

  36. Sitka

    January 23, 2012 at 6:44 am

I Highly suggest the BE Ready Eyeshadows. The Duos are really the best. (I have one of the Quads and one of the 8 pans)…

My favorites: The Epiphany, The Scenic Route & The Top Shelf…

This is my Everyday, go to, neutral, perfect eyeshadow.

OMG, Leesha, you have got to try the Bare Minerals “Purely Nourishing Moisturizer” for combination skin. It is AMAZING!! I’ve been looking for a good moisturizer that doesn’t break me out or feel greasy and this is it!
Its not heavy, and has a nice light herbal scent. When I put this on after washing my face, my skin just drinks it in…ahhhh….Feels so nice, like my skin can breathe. This is a MUST HAVE, imo.
Also, I just bought the Too Faced Romantic Eye palette and it has some beautiful colors in it! I was very happy I bought this :)
Loving the Mabelline Color Tattoo Cream eyeshadow too!

    Hope that helps! :)

    nars hanamichi eyeshadow palette

    • Brea

      January 24, 2012 at 11:33 pm

Ulta doesn’t sell Lancome or NARS. Unfortunately. They only have a small selection of higher end cosmetics, UD, Smashbox, Tarte, Benefit, BE, and a couple others. :(

      • RABEEA

        January 26, 2012 at 5:08 pm

    January 24, 2012 at 7:09 pm

You should definitely get the new Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara, I absolutely LOVE it. I have tried so many mascaras (some high end some drugstore) and this is the best so far! Also, I would be interested to see some reviews on the new “beauty balm” or BB fads, the one I’ve been looking at is Too Faced.
