VIDEO: Mixing Separated Lip Tars

By  |  8 Comments

I looove lip tars. This isn’t a secret. When I first got them, I remember being confused that after a couple of months, some of the ones I had were separating, with the pigment sinking to the bottom of the tube. This can be problematic, especially if you store them lying flat, as you can end up just getting the clear gloss and no pigment coming out.

I originally thought my lip tars had gone bad, and emailed the owner of OCC about it, and he told me a quick fix. Since I have gotten many, many emails from you guys about this happening to you, I thought I’d do a really quick video showing that simply flipping the tube of lip tar over and leaving it for about an hour will mix it back up. Sure, if you are in a pinch you could shake the tube or try and kneed it together, but because the product is relatively thick it will only mix it so much, unless you want to shake it for awhile!

    This was a great tip!

Allthough I have a question about Black Dahlia, it always bleeds on me! Even though I try to apply it as thin as I possibly can, it still bleeds.. Tried to use a trasparent lip pencil, but it didnt help that much.. Any pointers? I dont want to stop using it, because its so gorgeous!

I think it’s also how you store them! If you really are having them lay head down like that, in your Muji-esque lipstick organizer that is how it separates. It’s best to leave them flat in a box or in your drawer so they stay as they should! It’s like red wine: NEVER store it upright or the sediment travels to the bottom and you ruin the flavour. It has to lay sideways at all times. Great post on rejuvenating it!

they still separate! if you leave them flat, the only difference is youre more likely to get clear gloss and less pigment than the other way around.

I finally took the plunge and bought one a couple months ago. I’m wondering now if I did in fact get a bad tube. Mine was extremely separated when I got it (ordered from Sephora online) and it’s SO runny.Like, if I tilt the tube even a tiny bit, it runs out the tip, even if the pigment’s mixed in and I’m not squeezing it. It’s drying, and pasty and eugghhhk, even if I only use a teeny bit. After hearing so much good about them, I was crazy disappointed. Maybe it’s just the specific colour (I got Memento), or even the batch, but based on the one I have, I won’t be buying these again.

Will this work with the too faced shadow insurance? Mine seems to have oil coming out of it every time i go to use it.
