Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Foundation Review

By  |  8 Comments

A few weeks ago I was sent a new foundation coming out from Shu Uemura called The Lightbulb foundation. This is a high coverage foundation, and its main appeal is the glow that it gives your skin (very fitting considering the name of the foundation!). It also comes with a specially designed sponge, which also has a lightbulb shape, and each end of the sponge has a specific purpose to sort of manipulate the glow factor in the foundation and how strong it appears on your face.

The color I have is 375 Honey. According to the website, it says it has a pink undertone. Generally, I never, ever wear a pink undertone foundation, so this really surprised me.  You can see in the swatch, if it has any pink undertones they are very subtle. This foundation matched my skin perfectly, so I would say its closer to a neutral undertone than pink.

For the sponge, you use the wider end to enhance the glow by tapping the foundation on to the skin around your cheekbones and t-zone. The pointed, smaller end is to control the glow, kind of like buffing it out. You’d use this end on any areas you want to have less glow, like your chin.

Here’s The Lightbulb foundation on me, after using the sponge to get the right glow factor where i wanted it. The foundation doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and has really nice coverage.

Shu also has my photo featured on their website right now, as an example skin tone on their foundation shade finder! Pretty cool if you ask me :)

This foundation is really nice and would be awesome for anyone who has drier skin and wants to add more of a glow to their face. I love that it comes with a sponge that helps you control the amount of glow you are getting, so your face doesn’t just look like a super shiny disco ball :)

Available for $55 from Shu Uemura

I love the finish that it gives, but I have combo skin, so it might not work as well for me…
