Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo: Edgy Emerald

I’m sure a good portion of you all have heard about this awesome new product from Maybelline- their Color Tattoos. I got my first ones a few weeks back, and have been super impressed! I currently have four (more reviews to follow!) but I wanted to share this one first, and show photos on my test to see how long it actually would last :)

Edge Emerald is a light sea foam green with gold sparkles. The color can be applied thinly to get a nice, sheer green, or a bit heavier to get an even, opaque shade.
The main thing I was concerned about with these is the wear time. I know a lot of products love to put ~24 hour wear!~ on their products, but could this live up to that? I had heard great reviews, but I really wanted to see for myself.

The shades do not get darker overtime, as they may look from these photos!) This test was done with no primer underneath either!

You can see from the test photos- my real problem was that mascara! Too bad I can’t remember what it was :) I should also mention I washed my face with this stuff, and constantly forgot I had it on and rubbed my eyes- didn’t budge! This stuff is awesome. It really impressed me, and I totally plan on getting more! Granted, no, I didn’t wear this for the FULL 24 hours, but I think 16 hours is a pretty good test point!

Available for around $7 at drugstores.

Girl, get you some tough as taupe! It’s amazing! Also, bad to the bronze is gorge!! Those are my 2 favs. They are great to just slap on your lid and go. I also like to use bad to the bronze under verve from Naked 2. It gives it awesome dimension!

Don’t waste your time on the purple….I’ve tried it every way I can think of and can’t make it look good. It creases too.

      • Tiffany says:

The purple is the one I have heard bad things about. I’ll have to look for the others – thanks for the recommendations!

        • MsNyse says:

I heard the bad reviews on the purple after I bought it also but I wore it as a base under MAC’s Push The Edge pigment and it was beautiful, (at least that’s what everyone else said.) I say experiment with it yourself because you never know, you just might like it! :)

      • Kitty Cat says:

I have the purple actually and I love it!!! Creamy, great application and wear. It still looks really bright and fun but also very wearable. I’m wearing it to work and inside business lighting it doesn’t pop as much as when your in natural lighting. Very diverse. I also used it as a base for a more iridescent urban decay purply-blue. Staying power is forever. Haha.

I got one of these in bold gold the other day, they were almost all out of them at the Ulta I was at. Super excited to wear it and get all the other colors I’m interested in.

    • Stacie says:

I wore bad to the bronze the other day for 14 hours on Friday with no primer. No fading. No creasing. Nada. This stuff is amazing!

    • Mariam says:

I got the plum coloured one and the taupe one, the plum one really made the green in my eyes pop, and I’d imagine would look breath taking on green eyed people. I wore the plum one from like 10 am till like 12 or 1am, and no creasing and looked beautiful all day! Plus, these are one of the cheapest and best cream eyeshadows I’ve used

LOVE these! I originally got Tenacious Teal as a gift for my birthday, and I immediately had to pick up Tough As Taupe! That one is a total winner, too. I live in Florida, so it’s quite humid here. Pair that up with always being on the move and slightly oily skin, and you’re just setting yourself up for creasing, right? Yeah, not with these. I wore a few Urban Decay shadows over Tenacious Teal one day, and it lasted for about 16 hours, and even then there was only minimal fading/creasing on one eye. It would have lasted longer, but I removed it before bed!
Just picked up Fierce & Tangy tonight. Not the best, but it does make a nice base for certain colors in my collection. After seeing this post, Edgy Emerald is next on my list!

  3. Emi at Project Swatch says:

I have tough as taupe (gorgeous) and bold gold (gorgeous, but a bit gritty). i want to pick up fierce & tangy – it looks too bold for me in the pot, but i’ve seen some swatches and it looks really pretty applied!

  4. Anna says:

I’ve got 7 of these, and I’m trying to get my hands on 2 more. (I don’t have audacious asphalt or tough as taupe or the purple one–but I don’t want the purple one because temptalia said it was streaky and disappointing) I LOVE THEM! I’ve seen them at walgreens, cvs, ULTA and Target, but I haven’t been able to find more than one or two colors at a time. Besides the wear time, I love how they blend out. To me they seem more workable than paint pots, but not so soft as MUFE aqua creams, if that helps anybody curious about the consistancy…

  5. Kaitlyn says:

That color will never look as good on my hazel eyes as it does on yours, but I can’t wait to try it out. I’ve actually had it for about a week now. lol I’ve just been waiting for the inspiration for the right look. Tough as taupe is awesome though! I like the Infallible shadows from L’Oreal even better than these though. I’ve worn them all by themselves for 12+ hours with no creasing, fading, smudging, anything! :)

  6. Nannette says:

I really love these! The white one called Too Cool is a serious multi-tasking product. It’s a super eyeshadow base, obviously. But it’s also great for a highlighter on the brow bone, upper cheek, and cupid’s bow. Seems to stay put no matter where it’s applied. I bet you’d like the Pomegranate Punk color, too.

    • makeupjunkiepolkadot says:

I’ve used audacious asphalt as a liner with an angled eyeliner brush, though I didn’t get too close to the waterline as I don’t know how safe it would be.

  7. Liz says:

As someone who has never used a cream shadow before, how easily do these blend? How quickly do they set? And I’m very curious how they’d hold up to pool water. How was this applied? What is the best way to apply it? Is there a point where it can be too thick and will crease? I’m wondering because that color is beautiful but I would totally apply more to make it more solid. Does it come off fairly easily when you wash your face or is makeup remover recommended?

    • Mariam says:

These blend decently, with fingers or a brush. I’d say stick with your fingers to make it blend easier.
They have enough time for you to work with them before they set, but when they set it’s absolutely dry. When I applied it with a brush it gave it a sheerer layer, but then you can also build it and make it super opaque if you wanted. If you let each layer dry a tad, and you don’t need a whole lot to get it to a thick opaque layer. I did it very opaque and it didn’t crease.
It came off with ease when I used my make up wipes. you need more than water to make it come off.
For its staying power, I was washing dishes and I had some of it swatched, and it stayed on my hands (some of it came off obviously, but the fact that it stayed on at all)

Genuinely, these are great, (the colour selection kind of sucks) but they are beautiful, creamy, but you have to warm it up with your finger to really get it creamy (what I found anyways) It dried to a dry finish on my eyes, and it didn’t crumble or flake off. I have oily/combination skin, with oily eyelids and they stayed on for the 12 hours that I was wearing it. I have “tough as taupe” and “pomegranate punk” and they are both amazing.
I even worked out one day with “tough as taupe” on, and it came off a little, but it was also the end of the day, it held up pretty well.
(tl;dr, it’s a good product with staying power, I definitely recommend it)

Thank you so much for reviewing this product (& using them in your tutorials too)! I saw these in my local Rite Aide drugstore right at the first of the year. I LOVE orange and saw that Fierce and Tangy and wanted to pick it up so badly. Now that I’ve seen your tutorial using it, I’m definitely going to pick it up!

  9. Lauren says:

These are awesome! I have 4 of them and they are great!! The emerald is my favorite color!! They are so easy and fast to put on in the morning getting ready for school! Hoping for more colors!!!

  10. Shannon B says:

I picked up the gold, bronze, taupe, green, and burgundy. I love all of them! I actually wore the gold all day yesterday, forgot to take my makeup off, and it looked flawless this morning. I hope these become a more permanent thing in the line…..otherwise I’m going to have to stock up, which is hard since they sell out fast.

  11. Stephanie says:

My Mom bought me tenacious teal last week (she always tells me I buy too much makeup and saw it and thought of me and bought it lol what a dork). I’ve been using it as a gel eyeliner so far and it’s awesome. Have yet to use it on the full lid yet, but as an eyeliner it stays put all day. I want edgy emerald next.

  12. Alexandria says:

Leeeesha, is there anyway you could try using this as a colour base for Urban Decay’s flipside, if you have it. They look pretty similar, and currently I use the 24/7 radium as a colour base because without one that colour is horrible with the fading.

I’ve been putting off getting these, granted I don’t know how much longer that will last. They just look so awesome.

  13. Melody says:

Hmmm, I didn’t pick up edgy emerald because it seemed sheer in swatches, but it’s such a lovely airy green and since you’ve proved that it seems to wear as well as the others, I just might spring for it! I ca nget it when I go to pick up Tough As Taupe. I’ve been lemming it since I found out it’s a bit greyer than it looks in the pot. I want to wear it with Audacious Asphalt, which is the one I’m really loving. So sparkly and gorgeous.

  14. Justine says:

I wore Bad to the Bronze today with no primer or anything and it creased on me after 4 hours. Have you guys been applying pretty sheer-ly? I put on a pretty thick layer, so maybe that’s why it creased on me? I was totally bummed out…any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • Mariam says:

You kind of have to layer it, if you want it to be opaque, you start with a thin layer, I think the key is to let it dry like I felt it before layering more on

  15. Nikkie says:

I bought the white one, because I heard that they do not crease. And while the white one is not matte and isn’t super opaque like the NYX eye pencil in milk is..it was something more than what I had (simple primer). I haven’t used it yet, but I swatched it along with a few other products. I went to rub the swatches off and the stuff stayed. I took a shower, and after the shower there was still a little bit on my arm. I want to get the orange one, it was the one I originally fell in love with. At first glance I honestly thought they were eyeliners as I was walking by, and I’m sure you could use them as liners too. I want to buy more, I hope it is a permanent item.

Maybelline, that came out with either a spray or a mousse. Not the one you reviewed above this post (which I have used in the past). But it’s in a canister, which makes me think that it’s sort of an airbrush, or a mousse like the one you didn’t like. It’s the same logo as the dream matte mousse that you reviewed, just in a canister. I’d love to see a review on that product. I may actually just buy it…..hmm….

    • Leesha says:

I actually bought the foundation you are talking about! The color I originally bought was too dark, but I got a lighter color today and will review :)

  16. Kristy says:

Do you ever experiance creasing? or do you have dry skin? because i ALWAY experiance creasing in my crease area. you look great after 16 hours, had to ask. so helpful, thanks so much.

  17. daisyv316 says:

Please do a look using tough as taupe! I have that color and I use it every single day! I would like to see your look thought =)

  18. Karen says:

I have the cranberry, taupe and white colours. I have oily eyelids and they don’t even last a full 8 hours on me. They melt away and crease unfortunately on me. I’m trying it with different product to try to set it cause I really want to like these!!

  19. Riane says:

I have four of these and I’m in LOVE. Fierce and Tangy is so different than anything that I have. I was worried about how it would look with my green eyes, but I wore it alone with just some black winged liner and kept having people stop me to ask what I was wearing (which is far from a normal thing for me). I haven’t had any problems with these creasing on me. Pomegranate Punk is a really pretty color too. I used Fierce and Tangy on the inner portions of my lids and PP on the outer and it was gorgeous! I’m glad to see that drugstore brands are upping their game!

  20. Angela says:

Oh no ! I went to buy one today and I thought I was buying the Edge Emerald but no ! What I bought is a stronger color I think, it’s number 20, “Turquoise Forever”… Seems like we have different shades here (I’m from France, Paris) ! Also, it cost me twice ;(

Do you know where I can find n°50 online ?

    • Angela says:

Went back to see again the different shades and find a new one, the “Eternal Gold” (n°5), and it’s gorgeous! Exactly what I needed, a soft gold but with lot of shimmer, and it blends so good ! Very handy for a everydays to-go look !

  21. Rachel says:

I bought the “tough as taupe” one today, and HATE it. It’s not taupe, it’s Elephant Gray. It’s also really drying, not as smooth as I’d hoped, and hard to work with. I’m calling Maybelline tomorrow to try and get my money back, since the color was misleading in the packaging. It looked like a pretty, fawn brown. Turns out, that was just a top layer. ick.
