As I mentioned in my Urban Decay Naked Skin BB Cream Review, I’m overly familiar with BB creams, and generally am not a fan of them (or at least the ones I have tried. I have tried mostly Western BB’s, i know those aren’t supposed to be the magical ones!) MAC’s BB cream is definitely different than any other I have seen, though- as it comes in a compact and is used like a creme foundation. Most others tend to be in a tube and applied with a brush or fingers.
This BB cream also surprised me because it comes in three shades- Extra Light, Light, and Light Plus. The shade I’m reviewing is Light Plus, and it’s about a half shade darker than my complexion (my face is just a touch lighter than the rest of my body, so it actually ended up matching pretty closely to my body). That alone should show you that these are NOT meant for anyone with really any color in their skin. Usually I wear the lightest yellow based foundation in any line, so really these are meant for the palest of pale people.
The BB cream offers semi-sheer coverage, so it helped to even out my skin tone, but didn’t offer amazing coverage (which I wasn’t expecting it to). The one thing I really wasn’t a fan of was how this didn’t seem to sink into the skin at all. I like my products to feel nonexistent on my face, and I can’t stand that melty feeling of creamy products just sitting on top of my face, and I definitely got that from this product, and I know I didn’t apply that much. You can also see in the photo of me wearing it the shine that my face has. I know this product is meant to illuminate the skin and give it a glow, so maybe its just personal preference that I don’t like the feel of it. Other than that, I did like the bit of coverage I got and could see myself keeping this on hand for when I don’t want to go all out with makeup and just want a little something.
MAC BB Cream is available for $30 from MAC Cosmetics.
