Healthy Beauty- Resolutions & an Awesome Slimming Soup Recipe

If you hadn’t noticed, Healthy Beauty posts kinda went MIA for the past month or so, and the reason for that is because I completely went off track during the holidays, and it’s come back to bite me in the butt! I was doing so well with my smoothies, eating better, and trying to work out more, and once you derail from that, it is so hard to find your way back, especially around that time of year.

One of my New Years resolutions is to lose weight and get healthy (a totally original new years resolution that no one makes, right?) and I really want to stick with it. Last year I made the same resolution, and stuck with it for about 4 months, until I went on vacation and everything got screwed up. I miss the feeling after a good workout- that awesome, elated, carefree feeling. I want to stop feeling sluggish and insecure and I want to for once feel completely comfortable in my body.

I woke up today and decided that the excuses needed to stop. I didn’t start working out right at the new year because we were in Dallas, and for the past week I feel like I’ve just been making excuses to postpone the healthy shakes and workouts. I woke up today and kinda had a realization of sorts.. no one is going to push me to get healthy. No one benefits either way if I start working out or not, except me. This is something I have wanted for as long as I can remember.. why do I keep making excuses not to just do it?

And with that incredibly long pep talk, I start my 2012 journey here. I took “before” shots today, which are both motivating and mortifying. I hate seeing them now, but I know that they will make the end result that much sweeter. If you are starting a fitness journey this year, I absolutely recommend having before shots. You look at yourself every day, and losing weight is a slow process, so you might not think you are really making any progress at times. If you have photos showing where you started, it will both show you how far you’ve come, and most likely push you to go even farther.


Oh my gosh, I’ve turned into a life coach or something with this post, hahah :) ANNYYWAYS, to make this a little less deep, here is a really great soup recipe I found in FIRST magazine. I made it earlier this week (the recipe makes a TONNNN of soup!) and I’ve been having it every day. It’s ridiculously filling and super flavorful, even though it has no salt. I made it with ground turkey :) I can’t attest to the “lose more than 10 pounds in 3 days” claim, as it says to do that you need to eat a protein filled breakfast (i.e. two eggs, greek yogurt) and then 2 bowls of soup throughout the day- that’s it. I had the soup but didn’t limit myself to just that for the day.



So now, after I post this, I think I’m going to go try out my new fitness game for xbox Kinnect, Your Shape 2012. I’ll report back next week on what I think of it :)

    I hate when I feel sluggish. I started taking B12 under the tongue. Its drops. I am not B12 deficient but since I started taking 1000 mcg of the drops I feel 100% better. I am not nearly as tired anymore. I am in school to be a nurse and when I started learning about B12 deficiency I was intrigued. I just wanted to share this with you. Maybe this is something you would be interested. It is over the counter. Totally safe!

      I recently started taking B12, B6, zinc and D3 daily. I’m not sure which one made me feel better, but something definitely did! (also in nursing school :) go us!)

        I started taking a B complex vitamin, D3 vitamin, and zinc in the summer and I have also noticed an impovement. I have a lot more energy, probably from the the B complex and D vitamin. This has been a great help when it comes to working out, I can go so much longer without getting tired! I also noticed my nails are stronger and my skin is a lot clearer. I read that zinc defiencies can cause brittle nails and most intrestingly, can cause acne. A lot of people with serious acne found that zinc supplements made a huge imrpovement on their skin (some even saying it cleared them 100%). My skin wasn’t that bad before, but not I only get a couple little pimples a month. Love it!

        Now-a-days people have so many defencies because a good portion of our required minerals and vitamins come from fruits and veggies. Not only are people not eating enough from that food group, but the quality of the produce are less than par. The soil they are gown in is over used so the fruits and veggies don’t contain as many nutrients as they used to. Plus, we unknowingly (and knowingly) eat so many artificial sweetners and chemicals that not only block nutrient absorbtion, but also cause our body to cling onto fat cells.

          I need to buy some zinc then. I have it in my daily vitamins, but my skin still breaks out pretty bad.

        I hope that it works for you!!! I am loving the B12. I am going to try out all the other vitamins that the other girls have mentioned. It never hurts to take vitamins. I want to lose about 10-15 lbs… and I would love it if my nails were stronger. Oh… and back to the reason for the article. I am going to try out the soup. It sounds yummy. Thanks for all the great work you are doing on your website. I am a huge fan!

      I’ve been taking “Emergen-C Super Orange” for similar reasons. It only has about half the amount of B12 (2 doses a day) that you’re taking, but I like the flavor of it and all the other things that come in the supplement as well. It seems to make a difference in how I feel.

    Hey honey, it is the same for a lot of us. I had lost 35lbs last year and I only started in July. Then come the holidays and it was a what felt like a free for all. I haven’t weighed myself but I just know I feel tired and sluggish. So for the past 2 weeks its been lots of walking,smoothies and salads :)

    I love this subject! A few years ago I stared to change my routine. This picture is really true, exercice can fell bad in the begining, but after you fell good, you sleep well. I stop eating red meet and I’m feeling much better. I really like to talk about this! :) I support you, go deep!

    No worries about it being deep Leesha, the pep talk was really helpful! :D You are such an inspiration in so many ways! :3 I’ve been meaning to get moving around and making excuses too, but this really reinforces the need to stop making excuses and just go for it, I’ve got nothing to lose… except weight :P

    you should try joining! it’s a site where you can track your daily calories, exercise etc and it’s honestly super helpful. they have a great community over there as well, with heaps of success stories to inspire you, recipes, etc. take a look, you might find it benefits you :)

    Way to go! My resolution is the same this year. It helps to have friends who encourage you along the way to reaching your goals.

    I don’t think I could eat soup for two meals a day and not be completely unsatisfied, but it looks like a nice recipe to try! I’m doing a 7-day meal plan from a registered dietician and so far, it’s been great. I certainly FEEL better and my workouts have become MUCH better and I’m less woozy feeling. That’s a start!

    My suggestion is to play DDR. They have it for all current systems now, I believe. It’s one of my favorite games and I got one of the new ones for Christmas for my wii. I haven’t played in a very long time and I almost DIED playing a fraction of what I used to! lol I would normally play on the third level of difficulty for around 20-30 minutes a day. I did 15 minutes on just the second difficulty level and I had to give up for the night because I was so out of breath. I need to get back to doing it every day…

    I love your healthy beauty posts!! very fun to read and it helps me learn about new things I could try! Im all about being your best and that feeling after a workout is just wonderful.
    i was feelin a little chubby during the summer so when school started I signed up for the gym. I read about this cardio workout called HIIT (high intensity interval training) where you do 3 minutes of moderate and then 1 minute of full force. I used the elliptical and for that one minute I would crank it up all the way! I found I burned so many more calories and I got results!! (pretty fast too). I would do 4 intervals (or 16 minutes). So if you want something new to try at the gym Id suggest this. you might wanna die during that one minute, but its such a short amount of time its ok!

    I also read that doing your big cardio after weight training can burn more fat calories too. because you body has already been working for the 20 minutes it takes to start burning fat, so by the time you get to you cardio you’re a fat burning machine!

    I don’t make resolutions, or at least I try not to, but this year I felt like I really needed to improve myself, for me. I’ve been wanting to drop 20lbs for some time now and this is it. For the past few weeks I’m doing lot more exercising and kinda counting calories (even though I don’t seem that’s the way to live your life, it really helps you learn about portions, nutrients and portion sizes). I’m feeling so much better even though a lot of times it takes a while to get me to the treadmill or the elliptical trainer or to my Wii fit. But yesterday I learned about a great tool on It’s the calorie camp and it’s almost like sharing what you eat and do to work out every day (you only share with the people you want) and it has a cool badge and points system where you gain points and badges if your reach your goals. You define the goals and they can be really simple, like do 30 minutes of exercise every day or eat more fiber. I specially like it because I’m doing this with my sister, who lives in america (and I live in Portugal). So, it’s a good motivating tool for me. =)

    I just recently lost 20 pounds while on Oxy Elite pro by USP Labs. It has six active ingredients, one being Bauhinia purpurea which is a plant that helps increase your bodies T3 (how much energy your body exerts and raises it).
    Its a very effective pill to take and I saw results in 2 weeks, plus I had more energy while on it. It does contain a bit of caffeine in it so you have to drop ALL caffeinated drinks/foods from your diet while taking this product and drink LOTS of water.
    Another cool thing is that you can talk to the makers of this product on their website and they answer any questions asap.

    All in all it works but personally Leesha, you dont need to lose weight. BTW, Im a big fan and ILY!!

    I recently decided i was gonna do something about my weight, and so far i’ve lost 11kg, and several centimeters, everyone says they can see it, i don’t always agree though, i should have takes before pictures :D

    I Think you should have more posts like this. I love reading stuff like this. I have recently bought a membership to a local gym and have gone 3 times now..I’m so excited to start losing weight! I just have trouble with food. Lol. I dont have a problem working out and moving everyday.. it’s just when it comes to what foods i should eat im kinda lost =/
