Healthy Beauty- My Holiday Snack Savior

I am a sucker for sweets. It’s really kind of annoying, especially when I am really trying to be a healthier person. I love ice cream, LOVE baking, and chocolate. My coffee always needs at least one splenda. You get the picture.

This time of year is the absolute worst for avoiding sweet things. They are gifted, you make them to gift, you serve them/eat them at parties.. it’s almost unavoidable. Fortunately, there is one thing that comes out specifically around this time of year that is super sweet, but also healthy and low in calories!

CUTIES! if you’re not from the US, you probably know these as Christmas Oranges, clementines, or just plain ol’ mandarins.

Cuties are one of my favorite parts of the Holiday season. They come in little crates, and each one has a super cute sticker with a fun little saying and picture on it.

The best part? Two of these are only 80 calories, and they are what I call a slow snack, in the sense that you have to work a bit to eat them by peeling them, so you don’t eat as fast as you would, say, eat an open bag of chips, or something you can eat continuously without thinking about it. They’re also full of Vitamin C (almost 300% DV in two!) which is especially great around this time of year, when its so easy to catch a cold!

Personally I’m obsessed, and I always have these on hand around christmas :)

What are your favorite healthy snacks? Doesn’t have to necessarily be something only around this time of year, either :)

Kinda funny you mentioned these I’ve been snacking on clementines for the past 2 weeks! They’ve been the perfect snack between classes and when studying for exams. I wouldn’t have thought they’d be good sweet substitutes, but it does make since.

I love edamame as a healthy snack. I buy them in the pods, and like to sprinkle a bowl full with salt, pepper and whatever spices appeal (Cajun seasoning is amazing!), then stick them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
I don’t miss chips when I have these to snack on.

    1. Kaelee says

Oh my God, seconded. Edamame is the best <3

I eat a banana as my mid morning snack, usually with a small handful of walnuts. I eat apple slices and more walnuts for my afternoon snack. I crave sweets, so I normally curb it with fruit. I also eat a lot of fresh blueberries.

I just bought a bag of these at Trader Joe’s! :-) My step-dad used to put them in the bottom of our stockings at Christmas when we were little. :-)

I loooove Cuties! I’m bad about eating enough fruit because I don’t like cutting/peeling/deseeding fruit, or I only like them to be PERFECTLY ripe. Cuties have a good shelf life, are super easy to peel, and taste so yummy. I also love snacking on pistachios and almonds.

  19. Michelle says

I just ate about 10 of those. In a row. Clementines are soo good :)

  20. Rachel says

There are commercials for Cuties every 5 minutes around here….my grocery store actually moved a display right when you walk in the door. Apparently, the commercials are working.

I love Pummelos. They are everything a grapefruit is but none of the bitterness. Sold in grocery stores where the oranges and grapefruits are. They look huge but don’t be fooled (they are also yellow), the pith is really thick. They can be a little tart though. They are BOMB!
