Healthy Beauty- My Holiday Snack Savior

I am a sucker for sweets. It’s really kind of annoying, especially when I am really trying to be a healthier person. I love ice cream, LOVE baking, and chocolate. My coffee always needs at least one splenda. You get the picture.

This time of year is the absolute worst for avoiding sweet things. They are gifted, you make them to gift, you serve them/eat them at parties.. it’s almost unavoidable. Fortunately, there is one thing that comes out specifically around this time of year that is super sweet, but also healthy and low in calories!

CUTIES! if you’re not from the US, you probably know these as Christmas Oranges, clementines, or just plain ol’ mandarins.

Cuties are one of my favorite parts of the Holiday season. They come in little crates, and each one has a super cute sticker with a fun little saying and picture on it.

The best part? Two of these are only 80 calories, and they are what I call a slow snack, in the sense that you have to work a bit to eat them by peeling them, so you don’t eat as fast as you would, say, eat an open bag of chips, or something you can eat continuously without thinking about it. They’re also full of Vitamin C (almost 300% DV in two!) which is especially great around this time of year, when its so easy to catch a cold!

Personally I’m obsessed, and I always have these on hand around christmas :)

What are your favorite healthy snacks? Doesn’t have to necessarily be something only around this time of year, either :)

I must say, that is the most perfectly peeled clementine lol no stringy things attached at all !!
Great tip, I love these but have never thought to substitute something sweet for them :)

    1. Leesha says

LOL! You have no idea how happy I was that it wasn’t all pithy and gross when I peeled it :)

  2. Audrey says

    Where do you buy these?

    1. Leesha says

I see them basically at every store I go to that has a grocery section at this point!

  3. mel says

in australia our mandarin season is over (i think as i see heaps in the shops in our winter) but now its stone fruit season, so we have apricots, peaches, nectarines, mangoes and cherries.

  4. Stephanie says

Kid Clif chocolate brownie bars are the best! It’s like eating brownies but with vitamins, protein, fiber, and only 130 calories in a bar :)

  5. Kim Teague says

Kinda funny you mentioned these I’ve been snacking on clementines for the past 2 weeks! They’ve been the perfect snack between classes and when studying for exams. I wouldn’t have thought they’d be good sweet substitutes, but it does make since.

  6. Joyce Hu says

    Leesha!! :)
you can still indulge in treats like that… i mean come on!! haha
do you like dark chocolate? hehe it’s the best

another good thing… do you like beef?
my mom and i always cook beef brisket, sesame leaf, brussel sprouts, and shitake mushrooms stir-fry style without the oil

it’s SOOOO good and healthy at the same time!

  7. Lucy says

Peanut butter and apples! Also just eating any kind of fruit when it’s in season.

  8. Joli says

I love edamame as a healthy snack. I buy them in the pods, and like to sprinkle a bowl full with salt, pepper and whatever spices appeal (Cajun seasoning is amazing!), then stick them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
I don’t miss chips when I have these to snack on.

    1. Kaelee says

Oh my God, seconded. Edamame is the best <3

  9. MorganS says

I’m a big fan of pistachios and edamame when i can get it. fer sweets ill just eat peanut butter… and just saying… you should not be using splenda if yer trying to be healthy… try that stivia stuff.

  10. Faith G. says

When my Mom bought these last week I ate three in the first day!

  11. Theresa says

LOVE them!! Me and the bf get pretty excited when they come out too. Another perk is we can share with our parrot who wants everything we have.

  12. Nicole says

i love them (mandarins) my favourite winter fruit!

  13. Phyrra says

I eat a banana as my mid morning snack, usually with a small handful of walnuts. I eat apple slices and more walnuts for my afternoon snack. I crave sweets, so I normally curb it with fruit. I also eat a lot of fresh blueberries.

  14. nikki says

finally someone else who loves these as much as I do. I got through sooo many crates! take them everywhere with me

  15. Sofia Linha says

Hi Leesha! In Portugal we have lots and lots of clementines all year round. I love them too and eat a lot. I’ve eaten them since I was a kid and it’s a really good snack. :)

  16. Lindsey says

You should do a cuties tutorial! Bright orange would be so cute for this time of year.

  17. Jenn says

I just bought a bag of these at Trader Joe’s! :-) My step-dad used to put them in the bottom of our stockings at Christmas when we were little. :-)

  18. Marilyn @ Lipgloss and Spandex says

I loooove Cuties! I’m bad about eating enough fruit because I don’t like cutting/peeling/deseeding fruit, or I only like them to be PERFECTLY ripe. Cuties have a good shelf life, are super easy to peel, and taste so yummy. I also love snacking on pistachios and almonds.

  19. Michelle says

I just ate about 10 of those. In a row. Clementines are soo good :)

  20. Rachel says

There are commercials for Cuties every 5 minutes around here….my grocery store actually moved a display right when you walk in the door. Apparently, the commercials are working.

  21. Sandee says

    yummy those look delicious!!!

  22. Mary L. says

    ginger bread men :)

  23. Kasey says

These are my favorite! My aunt has a tangerine tree and its our favorite thing to snack on =D

  24. Ashlyn says

I love Pummelos. They are everything a grapefruit is but none of the bitterness. Sold in grocery stores where the oranges and grapefruits are. They look huge but don’t be fooled (they are also yellow), the pith is really thick. They can be a little tart though. They are BOMB!

I have a level in psychology, which I possess found to be useless. And I are planning on returning to school and getting a Masters in Creative Composing, because I enjoy writing and would love to learn more techniques to make myself a better writer. We are concerned, however , this degree will never open up many doors with regards to the job market (just because my psychology degree is unsucssesful to do). Any thoughts? Thank you..
