Guest Look: Peacock Garden with Inexpensive Makeup

By  |  26 Comments

I know, I have been so so so bad about posting guest looks/reviews regularly, I’m sorry! I’m going to start posting them weekly, promise!

I got an e-mail this morning that really, really inspired me and I wanted to share it with you! Holly (youtuber SirenStarsong) emailed me to share her take on the Peacock Garden look that I posted yesterday afternoon. She did the look on her daughter, and it turned out super beautiful. The reason it inspired me and I wanted to post it, though, is because she used all inexpensive makeup (wet & wild to be exact, which I have heard amazing things about but can’t find for the life of me!) and nothing that I used in my tutorial.

I get asked a lot of the time why I don’t mention product names in my videos anymore, and the main reason is so that people realize you don’t need to use what I use to get a similar result. 8/10 times when I create a look for a tutorial, I don’t plan ahead and go “okay, I need to use this exact color, this one, and that brand”. I just get an idea in my head and look through my stash for the type of colors that I’m thinking of. I feel like when I mention brands in my videos, people get this assumption that the look CAN’T be done without the products mentioned, and don’t even think to look in their stash for similar colors. I also get people asking for looks using all MAC, all drugstore, all this or that brand.. when really, all you have to do is find colors similar to the ones that I use. So in case you were curious as to why I stopped saying them, that’s why :) no idea if it will keep happening or not, I get people upset if i say brand names or not haha :)

Anyways, off of my rant, here are the pictures :)

These colors are such good matches! I think this is a beautiful job. I think I would have liked to see the purple color be blended down juuuust a bit more from the brow. I also looove the model’s hairstyle!

And Leesha, I really like your decision of not mentioning brand names anymore. I think lots of the backlash you are getting is from people that just really trust your opinion, and really love the look, so people may try to copy what you did as closely as possible in order to re-create it.

I think more people should know that its kinda more fun to branch out and find your own favorite products and colors than copy another person’s exactly. It makes your make-up, and your entire look, more personalized. More you :)

Wet N Wild? You need to go to WalMart and Target makeup sections more often ;) I find it in Shoppers, WalMart, and Zellers for absolute sure.

I, too, re-created this look this morning using all Wet-N-Wild products. I wish I had taken pics while it was still fresh.

Leesha, you can get the Wet-N-Wild 8 pan eyeshadow pallettes at Walmart and Walgreens only. There are only 3 pallettes, purples, blues/blacks/ and neutrals. Their Coloricon collection has amazing pigmentation and are silky smooth to apply.

Your rant is justified, and I also think it *should* be unnecessary (in an ideal world). It would be so awesome if people could realise, by themselves, that they don’t actually need to buy exactly the products used in videos to recreate a look. I remember when petrilude did his “use what you have” series, and people were like, “oh wow, please do more of these!” and he was saying, “oh my god guys, don’t you realise? you need to view EVERY tutorial like this!” i wish everyone just had some common sense, basically.
(oh god, i totally just had my own rant, didn’t I…)

SO funny that so many of the comments mention Shayne’s hair. I also cut that style for her but she is in the process of growing it out. She’ll love how sweet everyone has been here about her look. Thanks again Leesha

I’ve got two or three looks of yours made with different things from the ones you choose… and I agree with you, it’s the result that counts, not the products!
Sometimes it’s useful to know the actual product you choose because it’s more simple to search for dupes but that’s all :D

I never mind if you tell which products you use or which brand they are! If I really love the colour I might want to purchase it myself. If I don’t have it, I’m not going to feel I have to go out and buy it just because you used it, I just use whatever I have. Keep up the awesome work, Leesha! XOXO

My Walmart doesn’t carry Wet N’ Wild, but I know WalGreen does. I think even CVS may have it.

Leesha, one day soon, I seriously hope that you stop caring about what others say/think about the way you do things. You need thick skin to put yourself out there the way you do. There are TOO many people who love what you do so you shouldn’t care about the few that don’t. (I know it’s tough, but it is necessary.) Just do YOU. Don’t worry about others. In an ideal world, people who aren’t interested won’t comment, but that’s not the society in which we live.
Getting off my soap box now…thank you for sharing this.

They FOR SURE carry Wet N Wild in the Walgreens on 45th and Guadalupe in Austin, Leesha. I don’t know if that’s far from where you live, but I’m in there all the time, and they have all of the eyeshadow trios and some bigger sets. :)

I get my wet’n’wild stuff from Walgreens, you should try their liquid liner, I love the aqua one. And I totally get your rant. I just have a huge a palette of random Ulta colors and couple singles, and I just try to match up the colors as best I can. Love you Leesha!

I think its bizarre for anyone to ask about the brands when they can easily just click on your link in the info bar and come here for the details…with that said I saw on the youtube video there were comments “I wish she showed how to make the gradient dots” etc etc…i was thinking woah dude, really?! How to make dots??? If you cant make a dot or a circle you probably do not have the patience to put together the whole peacock look anyway…foolish some of these people.

I seriously saw those palettes at the store today and almost bought them, but resisted.. looks like I’m heading back. It’s good to see that the pigmentation is so awesome!

You’re so right! Many people think they always need MAC o MUFE (which in Italy, where I live, are very expensive to me) to recreate a look and they do not look at the potential of some stuff they already have!Great colors!

Also you can get Wet-n-Wild at Rite Aid if you are up north…. I am originally from Houston so I know there are no Rite Aids in Austin, but I guess that Rite Aid is Pittsburgh’s Walgreen’s. There products are very cheap but they have come along way in the last ten years. : )
