In the past few months, my mom took it on herself to start watching Game of Thrones.
The woman watched five and a half seasons in a week. A WEEK! When she wants to binge watch a show, she takes it seriously.
This lead to weekly questions every time a new episode aired: “Leesha, did you watch Game of Thrones?” “No, Mom, I’m about two seasons behind.” “Oh, well you won’t believe what happened-”
Rinse and repeat for a few more Sundays, until I just gave in and decided to rewatch the series. As I’m watching, I remembered how much I loved Daenerys’ hair. Full on platinum, always gorgeously styled.. ah! Amazing. I took that on as my hair inspiration. I have been blonde for awhile now, but wasn’t planning to really go full on platinum until I started rewatching the series.
Platinum hair is something that I feel isn’t appreciated as much as, say, crazy colored hair. When I say appreciated, I mean that a lot of people don’t realize how much work and effort is put into getting your hair to be the right lightness and tone. When my hair has been red, pink.. really anything, I get a lot of comments on how much work it is, and yes- believe me, it’s a lot of upkeep. Platinum is an entirely different level. It requires more frequent salon visits and someone who really knows their stuff, or you may leave with uneven lift levels and spots of gray from too much toner.
I have been lucky enough to be seeing Tara at Sassoon Salon in Scottsdale, AZ for the past 6 months, and she has more than made my platinum dreams come true! She is insanely talented and has been my fairy hair-mother so to speak, as I know that blonde can be one of the most difficult colors to absolutely nail. I’ll be honest- the appointments take a long time (4-5 hours on average) and it’s a bit of a drive from my house, but it’s so worth it. Blonde can be super tricky, especially when you’re going this level of blonde, to make sure your color isn’t brassy and your hair isn’t crazy damaged. Finding a stylist who is talented enough to get it exactly right is a challenge in itself, and Tara always left me feeling like I was in good hands and had nothing to worry about.
Tara uses Olaplaex when she bleaches and tones my hair, and it really makes all the difference! My hair has been through a lot getting it to what it is now, and I’m so happy with it. I have Tara to thank for all of it and I’m so happy to have met her and get my hair this light and brass-free!
