During my last Sephora shopping trip, I noticed that Pantone had released a new Color of the Year kit for 2013. Last year the color was Tangerine, and I loved everything I got. The shades were great, pigmented, and so gorgeous.
Because of that, I immediately added this kit to my order. It includes most of the items Pantone came out with for this year’s color, Emerald, although each of these is also available individually. Check it out!

The Prismatic Shadow Block is one of the better items in this kit- it’s pigmented and smooth and would work really well as a shadow base. I don’t think I would use this alone, as it doesn’t set as nicely or quickly as you would need it to to prevent creasing.

If you like colored mascara, I would recommend this because the color is really bright and noticeable. This would work best on lighter lashes, or used with a white eyelash primer.

Bionic Color Grid Shadow Block (Sorry for this one looking broken, it was like that when I opened the package) :/

Bionic Color Grid Shadow Block: Emerald, White Alyssum, Crown Blue
First of all, sorry for the close up shots of the shadow here, when I received this kit in the mail this palette came loose and the white shadow is super soft, so it cracked a little. This shadow trio really disappointed me. The emerald shade is nice, but the white is way, way overly shimmery, and the blue/purple shade is just plain bad. Chalky, skippy, blah. I do like the packaging, with the magnetic clear top and mirror on the bottom.

This jumbo pencil has a nice shimmer and is creamy and easy to apply. would work well as a shadow base or on its own, as it sets a bit quicker than the cream shadow box.

Color Cube Lid Liner Stain: Emerald

This is by far my favorite product in this kit. Don’t let it mistake you for a gel liner, as it’s much creamier. You could definitely use it as one, you just need to be careful not to get too much product on your brush (its easy to do!) This lid liner stain has amazing pigmentation and is absolutely gorgeous, and if you were to get one thing from this collection, I’d recommend this!
Lightspeed Glitter Dust: Emerald

I can’t even begin to tell you how disappointed I was with this glitter dust. It looks amazing in the package, aaaaand that’s about where the amazingness ends. When applied dry, it barely shows up, and when applied wet, it doesn’t apply anywhere near evenly. I also tried applying it over the lid stain, and it was a patchy mess. I honestly can’t believe Sephora/Pantone would release this at all, it’s that bad!
Overall, this kit is the definition of hit and miss. Half of the items are decent, the other are really not great at all. I would recommend checking out the products individually, as some of these are definitely not worth picking up.
Color of the year kit is available from Sephora for $68.
