Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse

This review is for a product I’ve been asked a lot about! I bought quite a few Maybelline skin products at Target last week (Target ALWAYS gets me. I go for milk, leave $100 poorer) And I picked this up, along with three other skin products that you’ll see soon :) This is the Dream Liquid Mousse foundation, read on to see my thoughts!

I saw that the packaging advertised that the foundation had an “airbrush finish”. I always giggle at that, mainly because I airbrush my skin so much and from my experience it’s pretty hard to get quite the same finish as airbrush. Even so, I decided to put it to the test- do my foundation as half airbrush, half Dream Liquid Mousse.

Airbrush has it’s faults under the eyes on me, it ALWAYS accentuates any fine lines, so I usually don’t use it there, which results in an extra step. The Dream Liquid Mousse is much dewier than the airbrush foundation I used, which is very matte. The coverage isn’t bad either, it covered fairly well and didn’t look very heavy on my skin. The shade I have for the Dream Liquid Mousse is “Light 2″ which is the 2nd lightest shade, but the lightest shade as far as their yellow based colors go, and its just a touch too dark for my skin. I can get away with it, but when applying and especially when doing half airbrush, half Dream Liquid Mousse, I can see the difference.

The one true difference is the way these feel. Airbrush is weightless, as you’re using literally 5 drops of liquid all over. Dream Matte Mousse felt heavy and sticky on my skin. I did a tissue test just for comparison- I took two tissues and pressed them on to either side of my face to see what would come off, which should show how well the foundation would last throughout the day.

From the tissue swatch, it’s clear that you’re gonna wanna set this foundation. And yes, I know you’re thinking “Leesha, of COURSE the $7 foundation isn’t going to compare to the $150 airbrush machine!” I know, I know, but I still wanted to try! If something advertises ~Airbrush finish~, I want to know what exactly they are meaning. I get that it’s a selling point, people see Airbrush and think flawless. It’s just silly to me.

Overall, This foundation is decent. I didn’t like how heavy it felt on my skin, but it has a good amount of coverage and a nice, creamy consistency. If you set the foundation with a translucent powder, it will help with the heavy feeling and help it last longer and not transfer as easily.

Available for around $7-8 at drugstores.

      like i said, it is a bit darker on me and does look a little more orange, but that also factors in with where i took that picture, which was in front of my light up mirror (yellow lights) and unfortunately forgetting to white balance the camera. I color-balanced it on my computer, but it may have added on to the orangey look a bit.

    I love this foundation. Maybe you should do another review, but this time switch which sides you put the foundations on. The airbrush side looks less acne-scarred than the other side. Not trying to be rude, just something I noticed! Other than that, great review!

      That’s because Airbrush foundation covers acne, and acne-scares really well.
      I use airbrush foundation every single day, it is an amazing product that regular foundation can not compare too.

    TBF regarding to the foundation giving off on the tissue that might just be resolved by using less foundation.

    I used to use this foundation and stopped because it was way too heavy and caused me to break out. Sometimes it even looked cakey, which is the total opposite of what it advertised. The only way it looked good, was if I used a very good moisturizer AND face primer. It’s very thick and best on people with small pores and already pretty good skin. And a little goes a LONG way. It’s like concealer, almost.

    I have been using this foundation for years and I love it. It is the only one I have found to be true to the color it is rather then looking different once I get it home from the store. I have never had it go on heavy or turn orange. For me I would not change my foundation…

    Liquid Mousse is actually what I have been using for a while now and I like it a lot. I apply with my Beauty Blender to try and give it an even and not-too-heavy appearance. I find it’s nice on my fairly dry skin, though, it’s actually one of the few that doesn’t leave me flaky

    I use the actual mousse version of it. The Dream Matte Mousse. I LOVE it. You should try it out. It goes on lighter than the liquid in my opinion. =)

    Gotta say, I used to use the dream matte mouse all the time so I gave this a try, but compared to the other mabelline foundations I’ve used this was way greasier and heavy.
    It also oxidised really badly on my skin within about 20 mins, then when I took it off it had caused some really horrible skin issues (I do have hyper-active white blood cells, which may not have helped, but my face was too red for my other foundation to cover).
    If you have sensitive skin, be very wary of this. Like Felicia said, it’s a foundation for people who already have nice skin.

      i used to use this foundation all the time and i really did like it but i had a hard time finding my right shade because its either way to pink based or orange based on my skin and after 2 years of re purchasing it started to oxidize really badly so i kept going lighter and lighter until i was at the first shade and even then it turned orange on my skin i have three bottles of it in my room right now that i cant use anymore because they turn me orange and us ladies are not a fan of the Snooki Ompa Loompa look

    I used 2 love this foundation along with the fit me foundation they are making lately . However i found since i got pregnant that the neutrogena healthy skin foundation keeps me a lil more on the pimple free side and the less flakey side. Great review.

    It frustrates me that in the states you can buy make up so cheap.
    i bought this product about 1 year ago. I paid $27.00 for it
    I honestly do not like any type of liquid, cream foundation.
    i used the product for ages but it does not compare to Dinair.

    then for christmas i finally bought Dinair airbrush system.
    I love it so much, it is an amazing product and it’s worth the money

    the only thing that gets me with Dinar is that i have to pay $50 for postage, still i am saving lots.

    Yeah I bought this not that long ago to try and was definitely not impressed. No staying power at all and I stayed tacky all day even with powder. Go for revlon instead….

    I was using it for a while as my in between foundations foundation, and at first i loved it. And then i noticed how much of it came off of everything, even after setting it. And it made me break out horribly :/

    I looooooooooooove this foundation, it’s my go-to product when I’m in a hurry. But!!! you really need to set it with powder as u said otherwise it will have this sticky feeling + it will get all over the place

    I HATED this foundation. It made my usual not-so-oily skin SUPER oily. It didn’t last on my face either, slipping of my skin after about 2 hours.

    I didn’t like it at all. I found it waaay to orange! I even think the picture seems to give off a very orange feel. For the price you get it for over here it’s not worth it.

    But, by the way, are you going to do your wearable wednesday/fierce friday and first impressions video’s again?
    Because I really loved them!

      I am totally planning on doing first impressions again, but im on the fence about wearable wednesday/fierce friday. mainly because of the names- every video i get people telling me “this isnt wearable” or “this isnt fierce!” for awhile i was still doing them, just not calling them that. I do have a new series i am starting next week that will me 2 tutorials a week though!

    Great review Leesha. I have this one but rarely use it because of the heavy sticky feeling like you said. Even when setting it with powder I still feel like I can feel the foundation on my skin too much. So its just not for me. I love their Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse though.

    I’ve been using maybeline’s dream nude foam, which I thought this would be similar to when I saw the packaging. However, it really is a foam, where this looks to be more of a cream. I prefer lighter feeling foundations, so the foam is perfect for me, plus it’s very buildable if I’m having a bad skin day. I think it’s a great product and worth a shot, if anyone is interested.

    and omg i loveee it! i’ve never used an proper airbrush machine, but i think this one comes pretty damn close. especially if you use the corresponding face powder (i got the mattifying version) and its not heavy at all and i didnt notice much transfer. you should totally check it out!

    not to mention at CVS this week, for every 10 dollars spent on PF, you get 7 bucks in ECB. :) and i think the foundation comes with a “try me free sticker” for a rebate check. totally worth trying the foundation and powder in my opinion :)
