I Need Your Input!!

Hi!

I’ve been MIA this week due to the fact that my mom came to visit :) It’s been really nice having her here, I haven’t seen her since Christmas, probably the longest amount of time not seeing her!

 

I wanted to ask you guys for some input on my blog and videos. Obviously the videos and blog posts are meant to be helpful, and I’m just curious for some feedback from you! :) I want my blog and videos to be as helpful and informative as they can be, and since you, the readers and viewers, are what make xSparkage popular, I would love to know what types of videos and posts you’d be most interested in seeing here, and how I can improve my current ones!

Some things I’m really curious about:

  • Do you think I should be saying product names in my videos again? (This is probably the most questioned practice I do- and the main reason was always because I wanted to push the idea of “use what you have”, but I feel like it makes more people upset than stating name-brands.)
  • What are your favorite types of Posts/Videos to see?
  • Is there a type of video I used to do that you miss?
  • Do you enjoy Tutorial Series? (Greek Gods, Candy, etc)
  • Is there a type of series you’d be interested in seeing?
  • Would you like more interactive posts? (polls, beauty Q&A, guest looks/reviews)
  • Would you like Swatch/Review posts to be more in-depth?
  • Any other suggestions?

Don’t feel the need to answer all the questions, if you have input for even one, thank you!! I really appreciate your feedback, as you guys are what make xSparkage what it is and your opinion on the content is really important to me.

    “Do you think I should be saying product names in my videos again?”

    I think saying the product name is good as it gives the viewer a good idea of what you are using. Something that could be helpful for those who can’t afford to buy high end products all the time is to maybe do a video where you show cheap alternatives for staple products or at least some cheaper brands that you trust to deliver a good product.

    My other suggestion would be to do a video/post on tips and tricks that you think every person should know when putting on makeup but most people don’t seem to know.

    Hey Leesha,

    I get what you mean about the “use what you have”, but it does help if you mention the name of things, as there’s lots of dupe lists out there on Google.

    I like guest looks and interactive stuff, and would love for swatch/reviews to be more in depth.

    Also, extravagant, not-really-that-wearable stuff is what interests me most. I feel like there’s so many other gurus doing the wearable thing that it would be cool to see more creativity and.. weirdness. Does that make sense? Like the stuff you used to do when you first started out. BRIGHT and crazy and fun.

    It seems like you try really hard to please your subs, which is really nice of you Leesha, but it’s not as fun to watch when you’re not passionate about your looks. I think at the end of that day, you should just do what YOU feel is right, and what YOU enjoy doing. :)

      I like the bright, fun stuff too. I wear a lot of black and makeup is my way to not be so drag in it. ;]

    For me absolutely no!

    Yes I do! Especially the WW ones.

    I would be very interested in a tutorial serie named “around the world”. It was even a theme to vote.

    For me your videos are the best!

    Your way to do swatches / reviews is for me the best one!

    I would prefer that you say the names of products in your tutorials, it’s just easier for me to go “okay yeah i have that” and then I’ll use it, but then I’m not the type of person to freak out if you use things I don’t have (it was baffling to me that people would actually get mad about that), so for me it’s more crucial that you describe the exact color so I can use whatever I have that is similar :)

    I love the tutorial series, I know it also can give you more ideas and inspiration more easily, so you can post more tutorials! I am a huge fan of your old old videos, so do more bright crazy things! Those are my favorite! I know how to use brown just fine I just need some more ideas on what crazy color goes with what other crazy color, but I’ll wear any color of the rainbow and rock it! :D

    You’re of all time favorite gurus, so I’m counting on you to help me figure out what I’m wearing tomorrow lol. Keep it up, you’re so awesome :)

    hey could you do some more videos on the urban decay naked pallet? im in love with it but i have no idea what makeup to do with it. also some videos for people with glasses. i love when you do series. i loved how you do natural looks as well as wild looks. whenever i wear your looks to school i always get complements.

    I think you should say the product name, but also state that you really should use what you have and dont just go out and buy new stuff.

    However I would really love it if you mentioned the brushes more, I always have such a hard time finding the right brush to use.

    I have to say, I do miss when you said the product names. I definitely get why you don’t, but I think it’d be easier to just throw in a quick “remember, guys, you can find dupes for this stuff” and then name the things off, that way, if someone DOES want to spend the money on the exact thing you used, it makes it easier to do so.

    – I don’t think you have to name them during the video. The list below of the products you used works for me. Maybe do that and in parenthesis be a little more descriptive like ~Swimming (Glittery Light Green).

    – Q&A is really cool. I would think a lot of your followers have the same questions and trust your opinion.

    – Photos of the product swatched and a description or texture and application works for me.

    I think you do a fantastic job running this website. THe only suggestions I can think of are:

    I would like to see more in depth product analysis for reviews. It seems when you do reviews you tend to say “I think” which leads me to believe you haven’t actually used to product. That type of phrase would work for first impressions but not reviews.

    I don’t think you should have to say what products you are using in tutorials. I think listing them on your website is fine.

    You always have really cool nails in videos so i would love to see more nails of the day.

    Also an idea I had would be to have guest posts who recreate your tutorials using drugstore or other alternative products.

    Dear Leesha,

    I was breifly scanning through your questions. You have really taken time with them in fact that I would love it if you named the items you use again. It so much funner to watch when you know exactly what is used. Secondly, I was hoping for you to do a small series for the disney princess again. I am sure you won’t but if you do, the video quality will increase and you can update the princesses(tangled, princess and frog) I love you Leesha don’t you ever change!

    Hey, i love your web-site and have gotten lots of inspiration from you. I am on my way to becoming a make-up artist and love to see what others out there are doing. So to answer some of your questions…i like the product reviews because they introduce me to so many new things that i didn’t know were out there and will someday be able to use. Mentioning product names in the videos doesn’t really matter to me, ether way it gets known because you do list what you use at the end. I also like when you do a theme of things, like the HP, Greek Gods & Goddesses, and candy. I myself am a Disney Nerd so i love Disney themed things. Over all i think you are doing a wonderful job so keep it up and remember faith, trust and just a little bit of pixie dust. Hope this was helpful.

    Makeup tutorials are my favorite, and I like blog reviews because it is easy to skip to the info you need. I miss series tutorials!!

    I LOVE the make-up tortials- the more the better. You can not go wrong with that. Series are cute- i am indifferent to that. But I would like to see more basic tips. Like how to deicde what color/type of blush to use, when to use what kind of brush, how to make the perfect wing, how to apply false lashes, etc

    I also love the reviews and swatches- i am always looking for good products to use, and this helps me so I do not waste money on crappy products. I think when you do reviews though you should mention the durability and last of the product. First Impressions are nice, but they do not give inisght into how long the product will last throughout the day.

    For product names I like that you have them at the bottom- you should always do that. In the video you don’t have to say the name- but maybe you should describe what kind of product it is so we can find a product like it. Like whether it is a powder,liquid, sheer, matte, color, finish, etc

    I can see both sides. I like your approach in the videos. If people are so irritated with having to go to your blog for the list of products used, maybe you could put it in the video description or something to pacify them? Whatevs. I know I can just go to your blog if I wanna know haha.

    Not all your looks (especially the bright ones) are ones I’d wear, but I like to watch your tuts for technique, and as I mentioned on Twitter last night, my fav thing about your tuts is you don’t just edit out when you make a mistake. You show us how to fix it! That is the most valuable info ever!!

    I’d love to see your work on other people, but getting models to come in and sit for a tut isn’t easy.

    I loved your quick tips series from way back when. Seeing as I’m heading off to college in the fall, I would really appreciate a “college essentials” video because I don’t have the luxury of hauling my collection to the dorm. It would just take up too much space, and it’s the season for downsizing.

    So basically: a couple staple lipsticks, liners, shadows, etc. that I can mix and match uses for.
    I love your videos, and I love product names. For me, it just adds to the video, and I learn about products I like more than others. :D

    I already posted but one more thing on you saying the product names. I think It would be awesome if you did a post on finding eyeshadow colors in drugstores to match come colors like from MAC. You would go to a store and get colors that match to ones that you have used in tutorials. I do know that it does require spending money, so instead if you wanted you could take a notepad and when you find colors that are kind of the same just wright them down and look for pictures online.

    I love it when you do series. I especially liked the candy one. I was thinking you could do like emotions possibly. Ones that represent sad, happy, sarcastic, crazy, disappointed things like that.

    I love the outrageous and crazy looks that you do, but it would be nice if you could do more subtle looks but not completely bare ones. Something that kind of shows but isnt crazy.

    BRUSHES!!!! I always have the hardest times with trying to get brushes from crown brushes that are kind of like the mac brushes. If you could do a tutorial on this, that would be really appreciated but if not then thats okay.

    You are great at what you do, and I love how you are all about the fans. Thanks, and keep it up!

    I think you’re doing a great job with how every you’re currently doing them.

    I for one, don’t think it is necessary for you to list “cheaper” products to replace any you originally use in a video for your viewers because that just seems like so much for you to do when they them self, can easily do it.
    That takes so much work with all the products out there and I think you only mentioning product names on your blog encourages people to find similar and cheaper products. (And to be completely honest, seems lazy on the viewers part if they want you to do all the work.) Only my opinion.

    But amazing job with everything, I enjoy your videos the most!

    Yes. People know they can use a similar colour etc, I really preferred it when you said the product names. Otherwise it can be hard to go through the blog and work out exactly what the product was – espeically when a look uses several eyeshadows… The videos flow alot better too when you mention the names, less awkward than trying to describe each product every time.

    Yes :) These are fun every now and then. And i think a good way for you to get creative, get some inspiration and keep on track.

    I think that you need to mention what brushes you use. There have been a video or 2 that I have inquired about what brush you used for that part of your eye makeup and I never got a response. As you know… brushes can make or break the way your makeup turns out. If you arent going to say the name, can you atleast write it down with what makeup you used. Other then that… you are doing fantastic. I love your videos!!!

    I’ve always liked that you tend to go by “Leesha”. When I was little my mom called me “Leesha-Lou” so I always smile when I hear it! I definitely like you mentioning the product names in your tutorials because what better way is there to find out if you’re interested in a product than to ACTUALLY SEE IT USED. In fact, it kinda detracts when you don’t hear the name because 1) people are visual by nature and need to see something to associate it with its name and 2) sometimes the product name itself is descriptive of the product, as in color names ect. Of course I can’t afford a lot of the higher end stuff you have, but when I’m in the market for something it helps to have a larger, more widely known brand or name to compare against. Plus, if I’m buying something anyways there’s no bigger disappointment than bringing something home thinking it’s gonna work out and it turns out not so good. If I go in knowing what brands are reputable and what products I’ve seen work out well for you, I generally come out a lot happier. Besides, I think having the luxury of using the brands you use is kindof the gift of hard work. That is to say, I’m willing to bet you didn’t start off using Armani stuff. I like to reward myself with a really nice brand for having enough skill to pull off a not so nice brand…

    Oh, and the series’ are the shizznazzledazzle! I really like when you’re in the middle of a video and you bust out a bunch of “why”s. I went through art school so I really appreciate it when you talk about color theory or the techno-gidgits (scientific lol) way things work.

    Mostly, just keep it up! You do an amazing job and the only time I’m ever sad when looking at your blog is when there isn’t a happy Leesha post waiting for me.

    I love series but still having other videos put up throughout those. Also, I don’t think you need to put the product names. I agree with the “use what you have,” but honestly, people should be able to figure that out on their own. If you say the names, people will get annoyed that you’re using high-end, but if you don’t, they’ll get annoyed that you’re not. In this situation, there’s no way to make everyone happy, so just do what you truly want to.

    I think you should def go back to saying the product names in your videos. When they are just listed and you’ve used multiple colors on your lid its a bit confusing.

    I lovvved the series, ie Greek & Twilight. I enjoy them. It’s not only something to look forward to, but it’s also putting an idea to a specific thing. Themes are nice because it lets us play along, and if we like a certian god (i.e. Ares), we can enjoy the fierceness of him in a make-up tutorial. It’s really fun:)

    Okay, I know I’m really far behind, but I’m also just now discovering this site, and all the stuff on youtube. Here are my thoughts as a new person. :)
    Do you think I should be saying product names in my videos again?
    YES! Even though I don’t have a ton of makeup (not that I wouldn’t mind having it), I usually just buy the stuff you can get cheaply because that’s all I know. Yes, I’ve heard of Urban Decay and MAC…but I’ve never heard of anyone usuing it or seeing anyone use it (that’s what I get for growing up in a really, really small town in TN). Also, when you show the product and the name, and then you use it…it makes me go, AH! So that’s what that looks like and how it wears…now I want one! For example, I totally love the Urban Decay’s Naked pallet and totally wanting one. It’s all your fault! ;)

    Yes.

    Is there a type of series you’d be interested in seeing?
    What about a video game series? Maybe do like…certain characters…Aeris from Final Fantasy VII, Kairi from Kingdom Hearts, or Lara Croft from Tomb Raider (I’m a total nerd).

    I really like the videos you do. You’ve actually become my favorite youtube makeup junkie. Everyday I get on youtube to see if you have anything new and I always go back and watch old videos. I like how bold you are with the products and looks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the series you’ve done-especially the super heroes because they were so different from eachother. I have a request though because I couldn’t find it in your videos: Can you do like a night out look? Something different but still not too out there? I know it’s a little different than what you usually do but it would be much appreciated! :-) As far as the series go I think maybe cartoon characters (i.e tom and jerry or scooby doo or spongebob or something like that)

    I like it when you mention the products that you use especially the NYK jumbo eye pencil in Milk. I had never seen it and it was great that you identified the product. because I could not find a eye pencil in white. When I knew what the product was I could go buy it seeing I had not found am alternative.

    The one thing I would love to see is a series done on the Urban Decay – Naked and Naked 2 palates.
