Ask Leesha: Longwear Liner on the Waterline

Big question I get asked a lot is how to keep liner on the waterline for long periods of time. Here are my tips :)

Sparknotes:

  • My favorite pencil liner is by far Stila Smudgestick in Stingray. NO other pencil liner is as creamy and dark right off the bat for me!
  • Favorite Gel Liner is Inglot’s black gel liner, but MAC also has a great matte black one.
  • Dip your favorite pencil eyeliner in matte gel liner and use that to apply to the waterline for a very long lasting liner.
  • For even more wear, try setting your liner with a matte black eyeshadow. JUST a litte, and pat it on so it doesn’t get in your eyes (Don’t recommend this for people with super sensitive eyes or contact wearers!

    Love all the liners and use Blacktrack from MAC and finds it wears the longest…I have a somewhat related question for you or any of your readers/watchers…my mom is in her 60′s and has a hard time keeping liner on her upper lid. I got her on to MAC’S fluidline because when I have it on my upper lid it doesn’t move at all but even that on her comes off/fades within a couple of hours? Any suggestions would be great as I know she is frustrated with it.

      My mom has this problem too and she’s been using primer under her upper lid liner which helps a lot. She also pats powder in and around her crease to help absorb the transfer so it doesn’t leave marks. The powder she uses varies depending on what she’s wearing but she uses mattifying powder, loose translucent or a skin colored eye shadow. If the color transfers, it’ll be on top of powder and it’s much easier to wipe off without messing up makeup. Also, setting liner with a little translucent powder helps too!

    P.S.For those of you who are bargain shoppers (like me!), I’ve always had really good luck with Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner. Goes on amazingly, and with a little black powder, it stays all night!

    I cant wait to try this out leesha. do you like the inglot liner or the MAC one better? Bcause i have the mac one but the inglot one is sooo much bigger and cheaper, are they verry similar quality?

      the inglot one is by far my favorite!!! bigger, cheaper, and lasts waaaaay longer. that stuff is crazy!

    Hahaha I’ve set my liner before and gotten black on my contact… Put them in first and they get dirty put them in last and you risk your eyes tearing up an ruining everything ); I just try to be very, very careful now hahaha

    It’s strange how products work so well for some people and not at all for others. I bought the Stila smudgestick in Stingray awhile back and it barely lasted two hours on my waterline. Good thing Sephora has such a great return policy!

    Hey Leesha!

    The only thing that will stay on my waterline are the Stila Smudge pots, but I’m looking for a new product as the smudge pots dry out quickly.

    I’ve heard from the MUAs at MAC that their fluidlines are NOT waterline safe. Are Inglot’s pot liners waterline safe??

    Hey Leesha, I have a sort of embarrassing question. How do you take care of facial hair or do you just leave it? (like the peach fuzz or whatever) It is not a huge deal for me but sometimes I do notice it and it bothers me.

    Leesha have you tried Tarte’s liner that’s made specifically for the inner rim? The name is escaping me now, but i got mine at Sephora. Its the best Ive found so far, super dark and lasts a long time, and its very thin, its made for the size of your inner rims. If you dry off your inner rim before you apply liner it lasts longer, too- dont know if you know that trick or not. Ive yet to try Stingray, but its on my list :)

    This is some great advise. I haven’t worn liner on my waterline in a long time but I have been trying to lately. I have been using UD – Zero but it seems to slide into the outer corners and then fall so it looks like I have droopy eyes. I’m not sure if it’s because of the liner or my concealer (which I use a setting powder on). Do you think using Stila will work better then Urban Decay?

    Get the point of the liner through a flame of a lighter for a second helps to last the colour and it gives you a super black line!
