At Home Personal Microderm

I’ve been meaning to put this up for about a month (and had it already written, just as a draft) but TOTALLY forgot about it!!! eep :X

SkincareRx.com sent me one of their at home microdermabrasion tools to try out and review. I was really excited because I have always been intrigued with the idea of microdermabrasion. I’ve used loads of scrubs before, and Clarisonic, but nothing quite like this!

The hand-held device uses the same aluminum oxide crystals as the ten thousand dollar machines found at your doctor’s office. It smooths away dead skin cells, diminishing age spots and other signs of aging.

Basically, to use this you first wash your face and dry it completely. Then, you pull the area of skin you are going to use it on taught with one hand’s fingers, and put the microderm against your skin so it forms a vacuum and guide it across the area of skin, lift it up, and move down to another area. The area will be pink after you use the tool on it, so you’ll know where you have already used it. After you have used the tool all over your face, wash your face again and apply a nice, thick moisturizer. It’s important to use a moisturizer and SPF for a few days after using this, because your skin will be sensitive. It is recommended to use not more than once a week.

The kit comes with a set of blue exfoliating disks and a set of green disks. The blue is for sensitive skin, green for rougher skin.They also have different sized disks, with a larger one for larger areas like the cheeks and forehead, and a small disk for hard to reach areas like the nose and around the mouth.

When I first used this, I was actually a little scared. Upon turning it on for the first time, it’s pretty loud, and when the disk touches your skin, the sound gets louder, like a drill, and it feels similar to sandpaper on your skin. Not unbearable but definitely super abrasive! I was going in with the idea that my skin could definitely handle some exfoliation. I used the blue disks, but used a rougher touch and went over some areas around my chin with clogged pores more than once. BIG mistake. I ended up having a super chapped, red spot near my chin, that took over a week to go away!

Other than that fail, I could definitely tell my skin was much softer after using this. I also think this has something to do with my hyperpigmentation fading, which is nice too!

That being said, it is expensive, but in comparison to what this would cost you to get done at a dermatologist it actually comes out to being a pretty good deal. SkincareRx is selling this for $177. Not bad for a holiday present :)
